Sir Hugh John Dyke Acland KBE, JP
Known as Jack. Educated at Christ’s College. Worked on farms in Australia and Northland and then for a stock firm. In 1931, he and his brother began managing Mt Peel. He was a Geraldine County Councillor (1934-1942), a member of the South Canterbury Hospital Board (1940-1959), MP for Temuka (1942-1946), member of the New Zealand Wool Board 1947-1972 (Chairman 1960-1972), a member of the New Zealand Wool Commission and Vice-Chairman of the International Wool Secretariat. He was awarded theK BE in 1968.
Memorial inscription: "How youngly he began to serve his country. How long he continued."
Had 3 sons and 3 daughters.
