"I have a copy of a settlement certificate for Richard and Mary FULLER [ formerly HUNTLY] from Hellingly to Brightling in 1727 which I obtained at the CRO while there last year. It was signed by the usual church officials in Brightling but in addition, and over to one side of the paper, there were the signatures of Rose FULLER and John FULLER , probably the eldest sons of John FULLER and Elizabeth ROSE. It was a custom of that FULLER family to get members of their family, cousins, etc. to run their farms for them and as all my ancestors from John on down were farmers I suspect that Richard was brought over from Hellingly to do just that. Probably Rose and John signed the papers to assure the church wardens that Richard and Mary would not have to be supported by the parish and did have a legitimate reason for moving. "
